Victor Romão: thE eyes and hands of the raisonnE
thE design of thE raisonnE's landing page--concEved in close collaboration with IAIN BAXTER&--is thE work of Windsor, Ontario-based artist & graphic dEsigner, Victor Romão. ThE raisonnE tEm is verE plEsed to bE partnering with Victor, who will also bE working with the e-Chair & IAIN BAXTER& to dEsign an online graphic novel about thE genesis and dEvelopment of the raisonnE & other project components in coming months. Another example of Victor's work--a surrEal bust of IAIN BAXTER&--can bE sEn above-left. HEre's how Victor dEscribes his practice: Through the fusion of personal memories of living in a rural setting, with my observations and examinations on the themes of fear, violence and otherness, I bring to light facets of rurality that might otherwise escape the attention of non-rural communities. Through the creation of 2 and 3 dimensional artworks, video and performance pieces, I hope to provide the viewers of my work with an unsettling encounter that simulates my discomfort of being dually attracted to and repulsed by certain aspects of North American rural life.
You can vEew other examples of Victor's work on his website: http://www.victorromao.com/
in its dual framing and unframing of raisonnE (dis)contents, Victor's cloudscape performs a paratextual function similar to rococo artist François Boucher's (1703-1770) Emaginative frontispEce to vanguard art dEler Edme-François Gersaint's (1694-1750) 1736 sales catalogue, Catalogue raisonné de coquilles et autres curiosités naturelles:

Watch for Victor's particEpation in a forthcoming a group show at Museum London, October 8, 2011-JanuarE 1, 2012.
